A Milestone and a couple of conversations with Jacob

At last report, Jacob had still not gone "poo poo" on the potty. Well, that has changed! Jacob has been "poo poo" on the potty twice in the last three days. There's still a ways to go but he's getting there. Daddy has witnessed both of these memorable events.

Since Jacob is growing older, his mother is really hammering home the importance of giving up his "binkys." He only uses them at night when he sleeps, and it's been that way for a month or so. But she and I are trying to get him to give them up for good. He's not going down quietly. Jacob received Knuffle Bunny Free for Valentine's Day. This is a story about a little girl giving away her favorite toy to a crying infant on an airplane. These have been the last two conversations Jacob and I have had after reading Knuffle Bunny Free.

Friday night
DADDY: Jacob, do you think you'd want to give away your binkis?
JACOB: Not right now.
DADDY: When?
JACOB: Monday.

Sunday night
DADDY: Jacob, would you like to give anything to a sad baby?
JACOB: Binkys
DADDY: You'd give up your binkys?
JACOB: Patrick's binkys.

An Update on Life

I sit in a quiet house tonight as Su gets a much needed "girls night" with her friends. I enjoy coming home "early" these days and spending some time playing with the boys and giving her a break. Life is obviously busy and I'm not posting on the blog as much. So I thought with some quiet time, I'd bring everyone up to speed on life with anything that pops into my head.

Jacob is certainly evolving into a "big boy." He's got more and more of a mind of his own each and every day. I only wish I could think of some of the funny things he says, most of which might not be understood on this blog. He's thoroughly enjoying sports right now, much to the delight of his father. He likes to hit and throw the baseball, hit the golf ball, and kick the soccer ball. His favorite television show is American Idol and I wish I was joking. Tonight, he said the best singer was "Rob," whoever that is. Jacob has become scared of things gs as well. Yesterday, he told me he heard noises in his mouth. There are always noises in his room and well as EVIL SHADOWS!!! He and George have a love-hate relationship. Well, fortunately George loves Jacob...however, Jacob chases George one minute and is running from him the next. Jacob pees pees on the potty fairly regularly. No poo poo yet despite our bribe of five M&Ms for a successful try (he gets two for pee pee).

Patrick is growing older as well. He is flipping over in his crib. He doesn't like that too much...yet. When he gets tired, he plants plenty of wet ones on his parents. We think he is close to crawling. For now, he rocks on his knees in that crawling positions. Patrick loves to pull hair, faces and whatever he can get those rough hands on. His top two teeth are coming in and we think a third on the bottom.

As for me and Su. Well, I work and so does she (the free kind). The end!

There's A First Time For Everything...

...that's the old saying, isn't it? If so, today Jacob experience his first real "injury." He ran into something in one of the play rooms at school and split his eye open. Su called me with the news and fortunately I was able to get to school within a matter of minutes (I work just around the corner.) We spent about three hours at the ER and Jacob has his first three stiches. He continues to amaze me with how brave he is. His only tear came from an injection to numb the stitching. He did say as we left, "Don't want to go back to hospital." I don't think any of us do! I will get a picture of the injury although I don't have one yet.

However, I can't go this long in between posts without sharing some image! This is Patrick last week for his eight month photo shoot. Neithe of us can believe it's been eight months. Patrick is a very hardheaded, energetic, physically strong youngster. He wears me out after a couple of hours. I truly don't know how tiny Suzanne manages an entire day....still, we love him very, very much!
