4 weeks!

Funny. I did not plan this but it's 10:36, which is almost the precise time the nurses informed us our child was about to be born just four weeks ago. I really don't know where all that time has gone. I'll shut up now. The point of this post is to show you the progression Jacob is making. I think he's coming along nicely!

End of an era

I want to step away for a moment from "all things Jacob" and bring your attention to my father and uncle. Today is the last day of business at Brister's Pharmacy, or as we've all called it for many years, "The Store."

Brister's has been around for 57 years, founded by my grandfather E.E. Brister in 1951. Ward (my dad) and Henry (my uncle) joined many years ago and took over when my grandfather passed away in 1984, I believe.

A while back, CVS announced it was coming to town and the two Brister brothers sold their business. It was a no brainer, considering all of their sons were either too stupid to go to pharmacy school or too smart not to try. Both Bristers will be employed by CVS, which is mere seconds from The Store. There are many memories running through my head as I type...it's definitely bittersweet, but again...clearly the right choice.

Please wish the two finest businessmen I've ever known well as they start their new venture.

Welcome Gege!

Uncle Gege is still in Mandeville, by way of Manhattan, as I type (in fact sitting right next to me). We had a nice dinner and then he gave Jacob a gift called "Baby's First Jeans." Unbeknownst to Gege, they really were Jacob's first pair of jeans! Gege was kind enough to drive into town from Grenada--after flying from New York to Memphis the previous day--where he awaits his 50th high school reunion.

Bedtime

I got a few neat picture of Suzanne and Jacob sharing a moment just before bedtime tonight and thought I would share with you all.

Jacob is really packing on the pounds...I will really be interested in seeing what he weighs next week. Uncle Gege's trip was delayed a day so we look forward to seeing him tomorrow!

A night of funnies

I guess you could call this funny picture night. I have not seen one better than this. The crown was a gift from the Parnell family. Their twins wore one for their first birthday and I'm guessing this is for Jacob's first. However, I couldn't resist an early crowning.

Jacob is definitely a wiggler and you never know what position you're going to find him lying in but this one below is the best I've seen yet.
And as previously mentioned, Aunt Renee was in town to see the little fella. I find it quite thoughtful that she bought a plane ticket to come here in these tight times just to see him. Word is Uncle Bill stayed home and patched up a leaky roof so we'll hope to see him next time! Renee was initially nervous about holding a newborn, but as you can see, she did quite well.
Our next visitor is Jacob's grand uncle from Manhattan, Uncle Eugene...known to family members as Gege!

Jacob's First Walk

The newly revised Brister family went on its first joint walk together late Friday afternoon. Jacob was a little fussy at first but settled down quickly, as the bottom picture proves. Aunt Renee is in town this weekend and we will soon make our first trip as a family to a sit down restaurant. More pictures to come....

Jacob's First "Real" Bath

Tonight, the young fella got his first taste of a real bath. He seemed to enjoy it but then again he's laid back with most anything that goes on.

Jacob had his two week checkup this morning and he is gaining weight at a fast pace. now weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces. It took a few days to get back to his birth weight but now it appears the growth spurt is set to begin!

Since the top three pictures don't show his face very well I have included a couple more recent ones. Please disregard the "sexy" legs you see in one of the pictures. Su promises me she will shave soon :)
