All Hallow's Eve

As we draw near the big day, here's a peek at Jacob's first "drawing" from class. What talent! Jacob is feeling better to the point that we have social functions planned three nights in a row!

An update and some pictures

Jacob has been doing relatively well since going on his antibiotic. Suzanne reports he is at times fussy during the day. This perhaps, because he and mommy are homebound during the day. Of course, by the time I get home from work, he is so happy to see me you don't hear another peep out of him all day and night...well, that's not fully true. He's sleeping extra long through the morning and we are at the point now where we think he WILL get to go trick or treating in some capacity! I can't wait to take some pictures.

Speaking of...here are some more taken before we discovered he was sick. You may remember his first girlfriend Reece. Well, they are still pretty big buds, going to school now twice a week. Reece's mother is expecting baby number two soon. Recently, Su babysat Reece. She is a doll and a sweet one at that. Jacob likes her except for when she has the audacity to get in his automobile! (See below).

Monday update (on Tuesday)

Jacob had a restful night after his doctor's visit. It was discovered that Jacob had a double ear infection (infection in both ears) as well as strep throat. He is on an anti-biotic and slept last night better than he has in quite some time. Let's hope this is the start of a new beginning!

In some downer news, Su had to cancel their Halloween trip to San Diego to see her oldest sister and their children. Everyone was looking forward to the trip but obviously now is not the time for Jacob to fly.

Hopefully they will get out there soon.

Dull evening

Thank goodness for our dull Sunday evening (outside of the Saints win). The Motrin really worked as we gave Jacob two doses and he is resting comfortably, hopefully throughout the night. Again, we go see the doctor at 10:30AM. I fully anticipate she will tell us he has an infection. In fact, I'm not so sure he doesn't have two...ear and sinus. We'll see how good I am with my prognostications!

Since we are ending on a good note, we might as well go all the way with some pictures. These are from two different trips to the pumpkin patch over this past week. I'll have an update likely after work tomorrow.

Sunday Update

The ups and downs continue. We were VERY concerned around lunchtime when Jacob checked in with a temperature of nearly 104 degrees.

I immediately called the doctor's office. Turns out I had not been giving him enough Tylenol. We now have him on an increased dosage and he has responded well to it. He's currently playing with his toys and has been happy over the last couple of hours.

We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow at 10:30. Suzanne is worried it's some form of the flu. I am convinced that it's not the flu. I hope I am right because I'm really going to feel bad if I'm wrong.

Jacob just ate a piece of bread. He's eating, just in smaller doses than normal. Fever and congestion are the worries of the moment.

Balancing Act

Jacob went down for the day as his usual time of 8PM. It was an interesting day. As previously noted, he felt good this morning. Then, about lunchtime he started running fever again. I held him for his nap shortly thereafter. He woke up feeling good and then started downhill again at about 4:30PM.

He was running about 101.4 fever at one point late but that seemed to subside toward the end of the night. We are crossing our fingers this is not something serious. I'm sure he'll be at the doctor regardless Monday morning.

Doing Better

Jacob appears to be feeling much better this morning. He is currently annoying George. Mommy is out on a walk. He woke up twice overnight twice (2:30 and 5:30) but went right back to bed. Jacob still has the congestion and cough but is in much better spirits, playing and dancing to the VH1 Top 20 countdown.

Our nurses called this morning to check on him. Suzanne and I continue to be impressed by the service we get out of that group.

A Bug's Bug

Maybe we should rename this blog "Davis Downer" since I've got all this bad news to share recently. Jacob has had a rough go of it today. We think (and hope) he simply has a stomach bug. He has vomited a couple of times tonight, is running fever, and has a cough he hasn't shaken in more than a month. I think the pictures below pretty much describe his mood today.

I really do have some happy pictures to post. Plenty have been taken this past week. I put a small sample on the blog header. I have now uploaded them to the computer and will get them on in coming days along with updates on the little fella.

Shiner #1

The good news is that Jacob is making big efforts to start walking. He is still tentative at times. Yesterday, he decided to get brave and show off in front of some of his friends at the park and took a pretty nasty fall on the concrete. Below is the result. Actually, it looks much better now than displayed in the picture. Suzanne called the doctor, who advised us to check on him EVERY TWO HOURS overnight. I volunteered for that duty, considering I will be leaving Su with Jacob all weekend as I go into the big city for a fun-filled weekend capped off by the Saints-Giants game. I'm sure this is the first of many of these happenings!

This leads in nicely to the question David Cummings asked me to help me get off my "writer's block."
QUESTION: What part of fatherhood were you least prepared for?
ANSWER: I would have to say the emotional aspect of being a parent. It's something my own parents have tried to describe as well as other friends and family but you really can't prepare until you have that child. There is no better feeling in the world than coming home from work, Jacob seeing me for the first time that day and being so excited. On the other hand, when he's sick or hurting, it's simply impossible to describe the feelings and concern you go through as a parent for your child. Last night, I had no qualms about waking up every two hours. It's that moment of making sure he's OK that it's impossible to prepare for. I assume this makes sense! I wouldn't trade the role of fatherhood for anything, though and I know Suzanne would say the same about motherhood. We are both enjoying this time, though, that's for sure!

McKenzie, to answer your question...
Do you really have magical powers?
ANSWER: Of course, I do. In fact, just this moment I have made the picture disappear from the top of the page! I will make it re-appear before you go to school Monday morning and you will have your proof!!!

Are You Ready? Jacob is!

Jacob's mommy contends that he will have full freedom to choose whatever school he wants when it comes to colleges and universities. Not if daddy has anything to say about it. One thing I have not shared enough on this blog site is the fact that Jacob LOVES books, any that he can get his hands on. He has grown quite fond of this Ole Miss 101 book featured in the video. Enjoy!

I am serious when I say that Jacob learned much of this over a 20 minute span over the weekend. He also knows where the Alma Mater is in the book but I decided not to push it too much in his first video exhibition.

Also, a big thanks to David and McKenzie Cummings for sending me some questions for my writer's block. I have given them some thought and will post my response in coming days!

Writer's Block

I have truly been intending to post in recent days but I cannot think of anything to post about. So I came up with an idea. Any "fan" who wants to know something about myself, Suzanne, or perhaps Jacob...send a question into the "comment" section of the blog or e-mail me. In a couple of days I will compile some of the questions and give you answers to all that you want to know about our thrilling life!

Before we get started, I will decline to answer any questions about Ole Miss football at the present moment.

In addition, I will post some pictures. This will give me an excuse to take some new ones.

Lay Z. Bones

I guess I could be referring to myself considering the length of time between blog posts, although we did have techincal computer difficulties for a week or so.

Here are a few Jacob updates since the last post:

He's still not walking.
He's still not eating anything.
He enjoys the comfort of a warm pillow (see pictures).

Lots has happened since the last update. We visited Grenada/Oxford and had a great time, despite all three of us trying our best to get sick. All three of us have kept the "crud" in us upon our return. Jacob is doing OK in school. An average student, if you will. Most of the time, he likes to be held by one of his three "teachers." Suzanne has gotten him involved in all sorts of groups and playdates...it seems like they're both doing something fun everyday!
