Hannah Alabama

One of Suzanne's good friends, Mimi Phillips and her husband David, came to town from Dothan over the weekend and we had a great Saturday visit with them. Like most 2 year olds, Hannah (their daughter) immediately was drawn to me; I don't know what it is, sometimes I don't even try to make them like me! I got a couple of great shots of her. She is such a cute little girl.
In other news, Jacob had his two month checkup this past Friday and did well. He had two shots with the band-aids to prove it...


...however, he didn't break a fever, that we know of, and has slept VERY wellHere are his vitals to date:

24 inches long

Party Hard!

Hard to believe Jacob is two months old now (9 weeks today if you're keeping score).

He attended his first party Saturday night. Our friends, the Plauches, entertained with their usual fine cooking and hosting. Suzanne and I took turns with the camera before the event.


The highlight of the party for me was watching our goddaughter Elise Parnell interact with Jacob. She was stroking his hair and whispering to him.
After that, she retrieved a Parnell family classic--"Goodnight Moon"--and began reading! I swear she knew every word! Not bad for a three year old.
We had a great time and I appreciate everyone putting up with me as I watched the Internet, only to see the lowly Rebs fail again on the football field. Oh well, I guess I could always become an LSU fan; just kidding.....I think.

Fan Frenzy

It seems as if all of the fans of this blog are going crazy. No, not because political season is heating up or that the Rebs are on the verge of a breakout year...but because I have not been posting pictures as much lately. I'm sorry to have spoiled you all through the first few weeks. I've had a few slight distractions, like hurricanes and company buyouts, to deal with too. And as I told my mom this morning, I really don't know what to say! Now that's a shocker.

I really cannot think of any major milestone that Jacob has accomplished recently, other than to say he is smiling a heckuva lot. Oh, and I think he currently has his first case of the sniffles.

Other notes of interest:

1.) Jacob cannot yet talk. He is trying, particularly after bathtime but I do not understand the words. It was kinda like trying to understand what my cousin Heath was saying all those years (just kidding Heath.)
2.) Jacob cannot yet walk. However, I fully expect him to rollover soon. That little sucker is strong!
3.) Jacob wants to be Dracula for halloween. However, Suzanne and I are overruling him and we think he will be a pumpkin.
4.) Jacob's hair is growing in. And I do spot a curl or two! Suzanne claims they will fall out but I think she and her "straight hair" are jealous.
5.) Jacob is going to kill me in a few years when he learns the picture posted below was open for public viewing (if Suzanne doesn't do it first!)

Finally!

Well alot has happened since I last posted and I do apologize for the delay. There is no great excuse except for a hurricane or two.

Anyway, I will give a cliff's notes version as to what all has happened since my last post.

1.) Bebe and Pops came to visit in Mandeville.
2.) We went to visit Bebe and Pops in Grenada because of Hurricane Gustav; in fact, the entire Hebert clan came along.
3.) Jacob participated in the viewing of his first Ole Miss game; he is 0-1 as an official fan.
4.) Jacob had a doctor's checkup and weighs 10 pounds.
5.) Jacob got to meet two of his great grandmothers as well as many other family members on his daddy's side.
6.) Jacob received a MISSISSIPPI STATE football as a gift. Surprisingly, it has not yet been thrown in the trash. (I figured their team was trashy enough...HA!)

My apologies to those who have sent gifts and not gotten a thank you note yet. I am responsible for many of the notes and am way behind. Please know that they are all appreciated! Even the MSU football. Until next time...and it will not be three weeks.

4 weeks!

Funny. I did not plan this but it's 10:36, which is almost the precise time the nurses informed us our child was about to be born just four weeks ago. I really don't know where all that time has gone. I'll shut up now. The point of this post is to show you the progression Jacob is making. I think he's coming along nicely!

End of an era

I want to step away for a moment from "all things Jacob" and bring your attention to my father and uncle. Today is the last day of business at Brister's Pharmacy, or as we've all called it for many years, "The Store."

Brister's has been around for 57 years, founded by my grandfather E.E. Brister in 1951. Ward (my dad) and Henry (my uncle) joined many years ago and took over when my grandfather passed away in 1984, I believe.

A while back, CVS announced it was coming to town and the two Brister brothers sold their business. It was a no brainer, considering all of their sons were either too stupid to go to pharmacy school or too smart not to try. Both Bristers will be employed by CVS, which is mere seconds from The Store. There are many memories running through my head as I type...it's definitely bittersweet, but again...clearly the right choice.

Please wish the two finest businessmen I've ever known well as they start their new venture.
