Mardi Gras Madness

Mardi Gras has come and gone again (almost) and it's another year of memories. I'll have plenty of updated pictures this week but frankly I'm pooped so I thought I'd mention a couple of highlights. This has been an unusual weekend in the sense that all five Hebert girls, their spouses, and children all got together for a few days. I cannot remember the last time this has happened--if any.

Erin, the oldest sister and her husband are here from San Diego through Wednesday. We have had a great time with our godson Ethan and sister Keira. The first highlight comes from a "dance off" that Jacob and Keira had in the middle of brunch. This "dance off" occurred during a second line. Needless to say, very few around this scene paid much attention to the second line. I must admit that Keira very likely won with her version of the reverse chicken wing (OK, I made this up but it's what it looks like!!!)

The second batch of funnies comes from a couple of conversations between myself and Ethan. Most of you know how I like to joke around with youngsters, mainly to see what I can get them to say. I have met my match with 5 year old Ethan. To say he is smart for his age would be an understatement. To say he should be his high school already might be more fitting.

A sampling of our weekend conversations:
Davis-"Hey Ethan, did you know I can count to six?"
Ethan-"Well, I can count to 11....in Chinese."

And another
Ethan-"I'm five."
Davis-"Wow, do you think Jacob will ever be five? And do you think you'll ever be 35? I bet that's how old your mommy is!"
Ethan-"No, she's 36."
Davis-"How old's your daddy?"
Ethan-"He's 46."
Davis-"Whoa, that's like dinosaur age!"
Ethan-"No, dinosaurs are more like 20 billion years old."

Pet sounds

Jacob is rapidly developing his vocabulary. Some of the words he is saying (at least that we can understand) are bath, water, night-night, moon, shoes, socks, and cracker. I know that I'm leaving some out as well. He also is becoming pretty good at making barnyard noises like any good 18 month old. Enjoy.

It cracks me up out he whispers quack, quack. He does this with several of the words. I'd love to know the meaning behind this but unfortunately when he tries to explain it to us, I do not understand what he's saying.

Good Times

What a fun time it is in Louisiana. First and foremost, WHO DAT!!! As someone who has only been a Saints fan for four years, let me congratulate all of you who've really been through the ringer with the team. Now, there has to be hope for all us Ole Miss fans!

Now that football is over, it's time to move to other things and this week happens to be the week before Mardi Gras. Check out Suzanne's latest creation with the shirt Jacob has on and also a couple of Jacob's latest "creations" from school. He is moving up in the artistic world!

Sewing Machine

Suzanne has become a sewing machine ever since Christmas. Among other things, I bought her an embroidery machine. She had really gotten into sewing Jacob and some of Jacob's friends some of their clothes. With this new fancy device, she has really gotten creative! Attached are some of the outfits that Jacob has been wearing in recent days. Notice the cuffs at the bottom of the pants!

Camera shy?

The other night I dusted off the old Nikon to snap some pictures of Jacob eating his graham cracker to show you all what a big boy he is becoming. As I got set to take the first picture, I noticed a wince on his face. It did not take me long to learn that he was bracing himself for the picture...i.e. for the flash to go off. After some thought, I then realized he was doing the same thing to Suzanne a few days prior as she was taking pictures of him in the hallway. I had found her shots odd at the time but quickly figured out what he was doing. I guess the moral of the story is the same. Jacob is becoming a big boy...big enough to eat graham crackers and big enough to figure out when the flash of the camera is about to go off in front of his face. Go, Saints, Go!

While it might appear that I've been on "blog strike" or made some ultimatum that I would not post until the Saints finally won another game, it is simply not the case. I have run into my usual interval where it seems I take a couple weeks "off" from the blog. For that, I apologize.

The three of us (or four?) went to the Parnells tonight to watch the Saints game. Wow! What a game! It was a festive atmosphere and we are appreciative of the Parnell's having us over. We also enjoyed seeing our friends, the Richardsons (not Reece's parents). There are many Richardsons in this town. I got more pictures of the young children and literally none of the older children. The ones that I did get turned out well I thought. I also believe that Jacob and Lila continue to have really good chemistry together, as noted in the final snapshot. I will be shocked if these two do not go to prom together in 15 years!

More Christmas For The New Year

I'm a little behind on my holiday blog posting. Bebe and Pops came to see Jacob last weekend. As always, they spoiled him with some wondeful gifts! His main present was the kitchen seen below. He plays with it every day. Jacob really enjoyed spending time with his Brister grandparents and by the end of the trip could be heard saying "Pops" in a whispering voice! We've also had a festive New Year; which I'm sure I'll post by Valentine's Day. Happy New Year!
