Jacob Fun Facts

I've got good news and I've got bad news:

THE GOOD NEWS: Jacob ate four steamed carrots today for lunch!!!
THE BAD NEWS: They were covered with hummus and it appears Jacob is allergic to hummus!!!

Oh well, you win some and lose some. He did have some squash tonight. He only likes to eat that type stuff when it comes from Mommy's plate.

Also of note, Jacob's third bottom tooth has come in. It has been in for a week or so. That's why I'm posting on the blog more. So I do not neglect facts like this!

Gone Fishin'

After a weekend hiatus, your newly loyal blogger is back. Yesterday, we took Jacob to the New Orleans aquarium for the first time. I believe it is fair to say that he enjoyed about half his time there. And I must admit...there is something really creepy about that last picture. I know Suzanne the "Shark Lover" will particularly enjoy that one.

Help Wanted

Seriously, if any of you mommies out there have any tips on how you're getting your little picky eaters to eat, we'd appreciate it. Suzanne is trying all sorts of tricks as recommended by the pediatrician. Tonight, Jacob had sauteed green peppers dipped in ranch, sweet potato FRENCH FRIES...and none of it works. He will literally have none of it. It's frustrating for me trying to feed him once every two days. I cannot imagine how frustrating it is for Su who prepares it all only for it to be thrown on the floor!

He had very little to eat tonight so any advice is welcome. Just post them in the comments section.

Gimme Three Steps

Reliable sources have told the Bristers that Jacob took three steps today. Mommy and daddy even though mommy was nearby when this happened. Eyewitnesses in the Parnell household saw this with their own eyes today. As an old news reporter, I can tell you this is all you need to go with a story. We will keep you posted on this development and pray that we see it ourselves soon!

Meantime, we do know that Jacob enjoys doing everything else there is involving movement. Check out his dance skills. Reminds me of some of those high school dancing vids I saw of Suzanne in high school.

A Shot In The Arm After Three In The Leg

Today was a momentus day for Jacob in that it was his one year checkup. He "checked up" great.
The vitals:
20 pounds, 12 oz.
30 inches long.

We learned some new tricks to try to convince Jacob that eating is OK and actually enjoyable for most humans. The doctor answered all of our questions (we both love Jacob's pediatrician as she spends a lot of time with us and him). The hard part was obviously watching the shots Jacob had to endure. He had three of them; cried as soon as we laid him down. He settled down after a few minutes...but, boy, I don't think either of us can ever get used to watching that pain all the time.

Of course, there is a funny story in all this. At a different point of the day, Suzanne and I heard a lot of whining out of George at the front door. Long story short, George proudly brought us a bird. "Big deal," you might say; all cats do this. I advise you to view all of the pictures of George on this blog. He is not in bird chasing shape and never has been. I believe this is the first bird he has ever caught. Watching him chase it about the front yard was a treat in itself. I was unable to capture the moment on camera...the most obvious excuse is that our pitiful front door is so fogged up you can't see clearly out of it. Nevertheless, Jacob and George had a lot of quality time afterwards as George informed us it was a present exclusively for the little fella. They are definitely buds and I am very surprised at how well George has done with Jacob around.

Food Fight

The "food fight" is one that Jacob is currently winning. His mother and I cannot seem to find but a select few, premium items in which he will even taste. He likes pretty much any fruit, cheerios, pancakes, ham, cheese on special occasions...and that's about it. Foods he currently WILL NOT eat under any circumstances are any form of chicken (including nuggets), carrots, potatoes (including french fries), avocado, pasta. I'm sure there are more.


We were able to snap this shot of Jacob enjoying his bananas in the morning. Noticedthe hair. We also lost the fight trying all day to straighten it out!

A New Leaf

Beginning today, the SuperFans of this blog will see a lot more blogging. I have been thinking lately about posting more and Suzanne mentioned her hopes that I would, too. The feeling is that we often "forget" what is going on in everyday life right now and it's important to let out of town friends and family know, as well as have means to recall what Jacob is doing at this busy stage of his life. Unfortunately, this does not necessarily mean that there will be more pictures; that is more time consuming so continue to expect updated pictures every week, on average.

Nevertheless, today's entry:

Below is a picture of one of Jacob's favorite birthday gifts...his car, given to him by Bebe and Pops. Jacob does not like to ride solo in his first automobile. Generally, he must have "Elmo," "Tad," "Baby" and "Caterpillar" (not pictured), and "Ball" with him. Jacob enjoys a stroll up and down the halls and he also enjoys relaxing in his vehicle when mommy and daddy are busy.
